The Marion County Green Party was formed in 2001 by several Indianapolis citizens who had been seeking something more than the Democrats were able to give our nation as well as our community. We have made friends all over the community in a variety of fields. People all over Indianapolis and beyond are sick of the choices they’ve had in leadership.
They want and deserve better than what the duopoly has offered them. They want real jobs, and real healthcare, and a real chance at a decent life, not more empty promises. Co founders are: Neal Smith, Bethany Hayes, Tracy Carson and John Gibson. Greens believe in equality between men and women, therefore we have two Co-Coordinators of the local Party. At this time they are Neal Smith, aka Skywolf, as male Co-Coordinator and Maureen Barlock as female Co-Coordinator. Maureen also serves as Treasurer. Steve Fox is our Secretary.
Greens believe in equality for all people. One of the ways we demonstrate that is by having not one, but two Coordinators, one male, one female. The Coordinators manage the Coordinating Committee which is, in turn, responsible to all Marion County Green Party members. While our Co-Coordinators are strong leaders, they are not the “Bosses.” There are no bosses…no elite in the Green Party. All are on equal footing. We believe equality begins at home, and we do our best to be equal in all transactions.
Greens believe in taking care of our planet. We believe here in Marion County that Greenways for runners and bicyclists should be more widely available. We think also that environmental problems such as old and decrepit sewers in parts of Indianapolis should be replaced before there is any discussion of a new sports stadium.
The Marion County Green Party believes that all workers should make a living wage. We believe that the way we educate our children needs great improvement and that all citizens should be afforded proper health care.
